Temple Ohev Sholom Library

LibraryTemple Ohev Sholom library was established to meet the religious, cultural, social and educational needs of the congregation. In our current collection we have 1,250 books for adults, young adults and children, as well as reference materials and will soon have a magazine and newspaper section. The library is funded by the Mildred Hand Library Fund and the Alex White Memorial Library Collection.

Beautifully furnished, the library is housed in a new room located in the same building as the new chapel, providing a comfortable and quiet place to browse, study and relax. We have an area designated for children’s books placed near smaller tables and chairs designed for comfort of the younger readers.

The library is open during Temple office hours and during weekday and Sunday religious school hours. Circulation is based on the honor system. Check-out information is located on the desk in the library with clear instructions. Books may be borrowed for up to one month and then renewed if necessary.

Religious school students use the library for story-time and research for class projects; teachers use the library to supplement their curriculum. Members of the congregations have found the library useful for anything from research to supplement their spiritual studies, to information on health and wellness, Jewish history or even to help in planning for a b'nai mitzvah.Library Lounge

The Library is maintained by a small staff of dedicated volunteers and is always looking for additional people to volunteer their time and skills. If you are interested in volunteering on the Library Committee, please contact the Temple office at 233-6459.

The Bernard Forner Library for Healing
At Jewish Family Service

We are blessed to have the third largest Jewish healing library in the country here in Harrisburg. The Bernard Forner Library for Healing, created by Temple Ohev Sholom member Lois Forner in memory of her husband, is an extensive collection of books written by professionals designed to help those living through difficult times the opportunity to heal.

The library includes volumes to help those who are experiencing the mourning process, teenagers who need guidance during their emotional experience of growing up, those who are coping with difficult family experiences, and those who are looking for a more meaningful path to their faith.

The library is open to all and is located at the Jewish Family Service offices, 3333 N. Front Street, in the small building across the parking lot just north of the JCC. For more information, contact JFS at (717) 233-1681.
