ABOUT THE SISTERHOOD
The purpose of Sisterhood is to further every interest and policy of the Temple; to cultivate the religious and civic interests of its members; to promote fellowship among its members; and to advance the program and purposes of the Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ). WRJ is affiliated with the Union of Reform Congregations (URC), which is the governing body of the Reform Jewish movement in North America. Sisterhood Committees
Altar Flowers
Responsible for obtaining alter flowers and oversees the Sisterhood Alter Flower Fund.
B’nai Mitzvah
Coordinates having a Sisterhood member present at each Bar and Bat Mitzvah to present Sisterhood’s gift.
Book Review
Selects a book from a Jewish author or a book with a Jewish theme. Invites the author to give a book review during Jewish book month
in November.
Calendar
Sisterhood publishes a yearly calendar, which reflects upcoming events, board meetings, and Jewish holidays. Each month contains a list of the birthdays and wedding anniversaries for Sisterhood members. Temple members can purchase the calendar and member directory at the Temple office for a cost of $10.00 each.
Cradle Roll
The committee sends a Cradle Roll Certificate and Hebrew alphabet poster to new parents and/or grandparents along with a letter informing them that Sisterhood has enrolled the child on the Cradle Roll. Birthday cards are sent to all Cradle Roll members for their fist through fifth birthdays. Babysitting services are provided for designated services at 6:00 p.m. Reservations are required for the babysitting services.
Critical Issues
Provides up-to-date summaries on current Jewish subjects in the world. There are receptacles in both Sisterhood Hall and the foyer to the Temple office to collect toiletries and cell phones for local shelters.
Donor
The immediate past president serves as chair of this committee which raises money for Sisterhood and plans a spring fund raising event.
Emergency Aide
When requested, the committee serves a meal in the home of a temple member following a local funeral. Out-of-town funerals for the spouses, parents, or children of Sisterhood members are acknowledged with flowers or a fruit basket.
Family Education
Responsible for building the Sukkah and hosting a Family Hanukkah event.
Gift Shop Committee

Historian
Prepares a scrapbook for the Sisterhood President cataloging the events during her two year term.
Hospitality
Sisterhood provides the Oneg Shabbat for special events such as following New Member Dinner, Leadership Shabbat, and Sisterhood Shabbat.
House
The committee is responsible for purchasing and maintaining supplies and equipment for the kitchen in Sisterhood Hall. The committee is collecting coupons (including expired coupons) for Linens and Things and Bed Bath and Beyond to use in their purchases.
Membership
Mystery Dinner Social Committee
Plans a progressive dinner for Sisterhood members and their guest/spouse.
Nominations
Selects the nominees to fill executive board positions.
Oneg Shabbat
Coordinates sponsors for each Oneg Shabbat held in Sisterhood Hall following services in the main sanctuary.
Parliamentarian
Program Committee
Plans programs for the Fall opening paid up member event, Winter brunch and Spring installation.
Publicity
Religious School
Functions during the religious holidays by providing apples and honey at Rosh Hashanah, gelt and candles for Hanukkah, Hamentashen for Purim and gifts for the Bar and Bat Mitzvah children.
Special Services
Sisterhood sends holiday greetings and gift packages to college students throughout the year. Passover packages will be sent to homebound or patients at nursing homes.
Torah Study
Tributes
Temple members can send a tribute with a message (i.e. acknowledging important events such as birth, wedding, graduation, condolences, or wishing a speedy recovery). Contributions support Sisterhood Funds of Margaret Friedman Emergency Aid Fund, Tribute Fund, and Doris Zaritzky Educational Fund. The cost of tributes is $5.
Uniongrams
Quarterly lists containing the anniversary dates of Temple members and the birthdays of unmarried Sisterhood members are sent to the Temple membership. A Uniongram is then sent with the names of those who have contributed $0.75.
